Point-of-Service (POS) Plans
What is a POS Plan?
PCHP
POS plans are similar to PPO plans, but require each covered person to
select a personal care physician (PCP) from our network of providers. A
covered person can still seek care outside of our network of providers,
but reduced benefit levels will apply.
Physicians Care POS Plans are unique because participants are not
required to obtain a referral before receiving care from a specialist
or other in-network provider. However, some specialists will not
schedule appointments without a referral from a PCP.
If a PCP refers a covered person to a provider who is outside the network, the in-network benefit level will apply if the referral is authorized by Physicians Care.
Advantages of Physicians Care POS Plans
- Selection of an in-network PCP helps steer care in-network, which is the most economical form of care.
- PCPs facilitate convenient and appropriate access to specialists for covered persons.
- When a PCP must refer a member out of network for care, the care can be covered at the in-network benefit level if it is authorized by Physicians Care.
Is this plan right for me?
If you want high in-network utilization and convenient appropriate access to specialists, a POS plan might be the right choice for your group. Costs for POS plans are usually lower than for PPO plans because of higher in-network utilization resulting from the supervision of care by an in-network PCP.
