COBRA Specialist

We are a West Michigan health plan benefits administrator seeking to hire an individual that has a desire to grow with us. We are looking for a COBRA Specialist to join our Plan Administration Department.  A COBRA Specialist should be able to providing effective customer service for all internal and external customers while answering questions relating to COBRA.  This position requires high level of confidentiality, professionalism, and ability to problem-solve and remain pro-active when dealing with existing customers and customer issues.   The COBRA Specialist will work closely with the Documentation & Compliance Supervisor.  The COBRA Specialist will also handle the same responsibilities as a Plan Administration Representative as necessary and could be assigned a specific book of business.  COBRA Specialist requires a high level of confidentiality, professionalism, and ability to problem-solve.

Candidate must have:

  • COBRA administration experience.
  • Demonstrates excellent mathematical, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrates strong problem-solving, critical and forward thinking skills.
  • Must be able to work independently, accurately, and with extreme attention to detail.
  • Must be able to complete tasks within set deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively organize, multi-task, and prioritize work demands.
  • Proficient skills with Microsoft Office.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Provides professional and timely service to agents, clients, members, and dependents
  • Effective communication skills via telephone, e-mail, and occasional in-person onsite visit
  • Participates in new business implementation process
  • Provides accurate and timely responses to all inquiries
  • Processes qualifying events, participant terminations, and updates
  • Resolves COBRA administration service issues with internal staff and outside vendors
  • Advises COBRA participants of regulatory requirements regarding grace periods, processes, etc.
  • Processes premium payments
  • Processes all incoming and outgoing COBRA-related correspondence
  • Assumes other duties as assigned by Supervisor
  • Input and maintain eligibility with new enrollment, changes and terminations.
  • Handles CEA mailboxes and route claims to analyst once enrollment information is complete.
  • Updates system with renewal rates for client billings.
  • Runs monthly billing cycles.
  • Audits all adjustments on list bills.
  • Prepare and mail HIPAA certificates.
  • Trained on 5500s for urgent requests.
  • Assist with setting up flex information in the flexible processing system
  • Handles urgent prescription issues and able to update PBM systems.
  • Scanning and renaming following ASR Retention Schedule process
  • Maintains and audits electronic eligibility file loads.

  • QicLink experience is a plus

 Required Education and Experiences:

  •  Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Must be able to cope in fast-paced, demanding environment and manage sensitive, confidential issues.
  • Exhibit professionalism within the workplace; maintain punctuality and adherence to set schedule; have solid research and follow-up skills.

  • Third Party Administrator or insurance company providing employee benefit health care coverage preferred.
